treNDy was a project I did with three friends for the Irish Hacks 2019 Hackathon at the University of Notre Dame. We noticed that women on campus were buying new dresses, game-day apparel, and costumes that they only planned to wear once, and that other women just a few doors down owned the same items, and would be happy to loan them. The theme of the hackathon was computing for social good, so we made a website that allowed users to post clothing items they’d be willing to loan to other students, in hopes of reducing the waste associated with “fast fashion”, as well as building community. The website is built entirely in PHP and HTML / CSS, and uses a MySQL database. The website never became public due to issues with the hygiene / security / liability of lending your clothing to strangers, but we won the prize for “Best Women-led Team”. The code for this project can be found here

The homepage shows articles of clothing that are available to be rented.
Users can add items by uploading a picture and filling out searchable keywords.
There is a private messaging feature which allows users to coordinate pickup / drop-off locations and times.
A cron tab runs every day to alert users if anyone is waiting for them to approve a rental request, and remind them if they have clothing due back to its owner soon.

We made a video to demonstrate the website as well!
